Thermal Oxidizers

In Thermal oxidizers volatile organic compounds are destroyed by means of full oxidation. The reaction takes place in a defined reaction area, the combustion chamber. Complete oxidation requires the following:

  • homogeneous distribution of the VOC in the exhaust gas flow (adequate mixing)
  • sufficient oxygen in the combustion chamber
  • good temperature homogeneity
  • adequate dwell time in the combustion chamber

Thermal oxidizers have been the standard exhaust gas treatment method for a long time. Today they are chosen for smaller units with varying flow rates or undefined gas composition. Compared to other methods, the energy consumption is rather high. It can be reduced by means of heat exchangers, e.g. for raw gas preheating.
