Low pressure carburizing equipment is used with acetylene (C2H2) or propane (C3H8) as a carbon donator. Tthe parts absorb only approx. 60% of the carbon offered during the process. This leads to a higly energetic exhaust gas containing beside the original gases also   polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and other harmful compounds. Draft of new German Technical Instruction on Air Quality Control (TA Luft 2017)

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) currently amends the Technical Instruction on Air Quality Control (TA Luft). This will concern the operation of approximately 50.000 units in Germany. The overall structure, form and systematics of the instruction will not be affected, but the content of especially Part 4 (Immissions) and Part 5 (Emissions) including several emission limit values will be revised. >>More
